Darcy and Mel first met at the movies. No, it was not canoodling in the dark on a first date, but working shifts together taking tickets and pouring popcorn at Burwood cinema where they both worked.
For their wedding the stepped it up a notch bringing old-Hollywood glamour and red carpet vibes (‘red carpet’ was their dress code) to the centre of Sydney as they said “I do” in the conservatory at Kittyhawk before heading upstairs to The Officers Mess to party the night away.
What I loved…
Kittyhawk is a truly unique wedding venue smack bang in the middle of the Sydney’s CBD. No need for your guests to travel hours out of town and pay for accommodation. The feel in the conservatory was cool and classy with the wedding party and some guests seated on the lounge around us while the ceremony took place. The bar area is dark, romantic and cosy – the perfect atmosphere to bunker down for a night of fun and festivity.
Plus indoor ceremonies are the best (no stress about the weather and everyone is cosy and comfortable). And the Botanic Gardens are right up the street – perfect for a post ceremony stroll with your love (and your photographer, of course).
What I learned…
Green velvet wedding dresses are divine!
Your wedding party don’t have to stand. Having them seated meant they were comfortable and meant the metaphorical spotlight was shining squarely on the stars of the show (but they were still right there for support).
There are no rules regarding gender when it comes to your wedding party. Pick whoever you like for whichever side. Darcy’s sister (in her amazing pink suit) was his Groomswoman and Ring Bearer and it couldn’t have felt more right.
