BABY NAMING CEREMONIES

A sweet celebration for your newest little love.

Baby naming day

A baby naming ceremony is a beautiful way to welcome your little one into the world surrounded by the people who will love and support them as they grow. It’s a chance to celebrate their arrival, share the story behind their name, acknowledge the role of family and friends, and maybe even make a few promises along the way.

Baby naming ceremonies are more than just sweet speeches and baby cuddles (although there’s plenty of that too).
They’re about pausing to mark this new chapter in your family’s story. Honouring your journey into parenthood. Welcoming your child with intention, love, and joy. And creating a space where godparents, guardians, grandparents, and all your special people stand beside you, and your baby, with love and support.

Unlike a religious christening, a naming ceremony is non-religious and completely personalised. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. These ceremonies can be held at home, in a park, or any special place that feels right for your family. Often they form part of the child’s first birthday party (because let’s be honest, that party isn’t for them, it’s for their family and community).

FAQ

What exactly happens in a naming ceremony?
That’s completely up to you! A typical ceremony might include a welcome, the story behind your child’s name, some readings or music, promises from parents/guardians/godparents, and a symbolic gesture (like lighting a candle or planting a tree). It’s flexible and fully customisable.

Is it only for babies?
Not at all! Naming ceremonies can be held for children of any age, whether they’re a few months old or already walking and talking. They’re also perfect for adopted children, blended families, or any time you want to formally celebrate a child in your life.

Do we have to include godparents or guardians?
You don’t have to, but many families choose to include special people in their child’s life, whether you call them godparents, guardians, mentors, or guideparents. I can help you create wording that reflects your values and relationship with them.

Can we include religious or cultural elements?
Yes! If it’s meaningful to your family, we can absolutely weave that in. My ceremonies are non-religious by default, but always inclusive and adaptable.

How long does the ceremony go for?
Most naming ceremonies last around 20–30 minutes, depending on what you include. It’s short and sweet – just enough to be meaningful without pushing nap time too far!

What if I’m not sure what to say or include?
That’s what I’m here for. I’ll guide you with resources, ideas, and gentle advice to help you create a ceremony that feels right – whether you want something simple and fun or a little more sentimental.
